RISE & FALL OF ECW NOW THE THIRD BEST SELLING WWE DVD OF 2004; COMPLETE SALES FIGURES AND BREAKDOWN
by Mike Johnson @ 5:00:00 PM on 12/22/2004
To The Top Three in Four Weeks!
In its fourth week of release, the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD moved a total of 11,208 copies, according to Videoscan. In one month, the DVD has now moved a total of 58,492 copies. A week to week breakdown of the sales is listed below.
After just a month of release, the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD has now settled into place as the 3rd Best Selling WWE DVD title in 2004, which is nothing short of amazing and a testament to the popularity of the company. The top ten standings currently look like this (last week’s numbers and place are in parentheses):
Wrestlemania XX: 103,880 (#1, 102,879 copies)
Monday Night War: 81,663 (#2, 81,090 copies)
Rise and Fall of ECW: 58,492 (#4, 47,284)
Mick Foley’s Greatest Hits & Misses: 50,566 (#3, 50,281)
Ultimate Ric Flair Collection: 42,399 (#5, 41,869)*
Hard Knocks - Chris Benoit Story: 31,345 (#6, 30,832)
The Undertaker - He Buries The Alive: 27,528 (#7, 27,191)
John Cena - Wordlife: 24,074 (#8, 23,825)
Bloodbath - Steel Cage: 22,053 (#9, 21,693)
Survivor Series 2003: 21,457 (#10, 21,259)
*Total sales for the Ultimate Ric Flair Collection including 2003 DVDs sold totals 90,497 copies.
The ECW title has now sold more total than the popular Bloodbath: Steel Cage DVD, as that title has moved a total of 45,321 copies since its 2003 release. It has also now passed The Mick Foley Hard Knocks & Cheap Pops DVD, which has moved 50,566 total. The ECW DVD would need to sell another 21,000 copies to pass the Monday Night Wars in total sales, which seems likely given the pattern over the last month and the lack of product available. The top spot, held by Wrestlemania XX will be a lot harder to catch. The one thing that the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD still has in its favor is that it is still near-impossible to find in major market stores. I know that several NYC Best Buys have yet to get the title back in stock from its initial release a month ago. It's also amazing that the DVD has blown away 99% of WWE's PPV DVDs from the last year.
The Rise and Fall of ECW, featuring comments on the promotion from Tazz, Paul Heyman the Dudley Boyz, Chris Jericho, Tommy Dreamer, Dawn Marie, Eddie Guerrero, Mick Foley, Nunzio, Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, and many more, is now available in the PWInsider.com Online Store.
WEEK TO WEEK BREAKDOWN OF ECW DVD SALES
Week One Breakdown: 13,966 copies were sold via Internet retailers. 8,006 copies were moved via Specialty Retailers (Best Buy, FYE, etc.). The remainder were sold by smaller entertainment outlets like independent video stores.
Week Two Breakdown: 4,054 copies were sold via Internet retailers. 9,097 copies were moved via Specialty Retailers (Best Buy, FYE, etc.), so as more stock was found in stores, the Internet was used less as an alternative. The remainder were sold by smaller entertainment outlets like independent video stores.
Week Three Breakdown: 7,491 copies were sold via Specialty Retailers, while 3,374 were sold via Internet retailers. That number would likely be higher if the major online outlets actually had the DVD in stock, as Amazon and Deep Discount DVD, among others, have been informing customers that the DVD won’t be available for 4-6 weeks. The remainder were sold by smaller entertainment outlets.
Week Four Breakdown: 7,794 copies were sold via Specialty Retailers, while 3,020 were sold via Internet retailers. Again, these numbers would likely be higher if the major online outlets actually had the DVD in stock, as Amazon and Deep Discount DVD, among others, have been informing customers that the DVD won’t be available for 4-6 weeks since Thanksgiving weekend, eliminating those possible sales. The remaining DVDs were sold by smaller entertainment outlets. The amazing thing regarding the ECW title is that the title has continued to show legs - total sales only dropped 200 total from Week Three.
