PCW TO HONOUR THE PAST AS IT SHOWCASES THE FUTURE!
Inaugural Hall Of Fame to honour past superstars at the Premier Cup!
Winnipeg, Mb - Premier Championship Wrestling gets set to pay tribute to two superstars of the past by making them the first ever inductees into the PCW Hall of Fame on June 2nd 2005 at the Premier Cup: X-Raided event!
'Playboy' Will Damon & 'Class Act' Chris Parys were two of the most popular PCW superstars of all time and their past accomplishments will be cemented forever in an historic tribute to the two Manitoba legends!
"PCW has had an eclectic cast of characters over the years," said Andrew Shallcross, PCW's Director of Operations. "Chris Parys and Will Damon were two of our greatest performers ever and absolutely deserving of this great honour."
Both men were original charter members of the PCW roster in December 2001. 'Playboy' Will Damon worked feverishly behind the scenes to help pull the ground-breaking company together and his efforts paid off in spades. Damon was one half of the most watched main event in Manitoba independent wrestling history as he faced former WWE World Heavyweight Champion 'Latino Heat' Eddie Guerrero at PCW's
Commencement of Cool March 3rd 2002!
Nearly 2000 people were on their feet as Damon competed hold for hold with Guerrero and wowed the fans for nearly 25 minutes! Known mostly for his skills with a microphone, Damon silenced any critics with that
performance and cemented his reputation as one of the most naturally gifted in-ring performers in Manitoba history.
Damon was front and centre as leader of one of the most successful cliques in the local business as he brought together 'Vicious' Donny Dicaprio and 'Mecca' Shane Madison to form MVP. The super group
controlled wrestling for three years and the inevitable break-up caused fans to demand a reunion several times.
Damon went on to become a cornerstone of PCW for all of 2002 and much of 2003 before a serious back injury cut his promising career short. In the summer of 2002, Damon's image was cemented in history as he took a starring role in a television commercial advertising PCW's weekly events. Thousands of fans were exposed to Damon's iconic catchphrase "and that's what I'm talkin' about" as the commercial aired during the Stanley Cup Playoff's and the 2002 World Cup!
Also that summer, Damon was instrumental in blurring the lines between reality and performance as he engaged in a shocking feud with his longtime friend and MVP partner 'Mecca' Shane Madison that climaxed at
PCW's Boiling Point at CanWest Global Park in front over 1200 fans!
In fall 2004, Damon proved his legendary status was safe as he made a surprise appearance at a PCW event after being absent for over a year. Moments after setting foot in the building, the fans erupted with chants of 'Playboy, Playboy'!
Happily retired, Damon has occasionally teased fans with the prospects of one last match. Whether or not it ever happens, fans will have one opportunity to honour the 'Playboy' on June 2nd!
"Class Act" Chris Parys was just that and more during his all-too brief career in PCW. Though he portrayed a 'heel' character much of the time, Parys garnered a large cult-like following that he refered to as 'Parysites'. No one embodied the spirit of 'loving to hate' someone more then Chris Parys as he was never far from the main event throughout his entire career.
Prior to joining PCW as an original charter member, Parys was already making waves by leading a group called Parys Wrestling International that had several wrestling superstars in it's midst including a young
Kenny Omega. It was Parys' superb in-ring technical abilities and superior mic skills that propelled him to the top of the local business before having his career cut short by a serious knee injury in 2002.
Often respected for his keen wrestling mind, Parys ensured he was always in the middle of controversy. When PCW debuted, he set his sites on Commissioner Tom Manos, a feud that exploded at PCW's
Commencement of Cool on March 3rd 2002 with a sizzling promo before nearly 2000 rowdy fans, garnering many cheers for the hated Parys.
In the summer of 2002, Parys' position in the industry was fully recognized as he faced former WCW and WWE Superstar Buff Bagwell at PCW's Boiling Point in front of 1200 fans at CanWest Global Park! Parys had injured his knee only weeks before and was not medically fit to compete but insisted on wowing the fans with an exceptional display of wrestling action.
In September of that year, the man who had been known for being a technically superior ring general showed another side of his talents when he stepped into the squared circle for bloody and violent No
Holds Barred match that is still talked about today as one of the finest displays of carnage of all time. Chris Parys engaged 'Ultra Violent' Rob Stardom on his terms, brawling all over the building and utilizing such weapons as tables, ladders, chairs, barbed wire and an
assortment of others. His performance triggered a standing ovation from the fans and the boys.
One of Parys' greatest accomplishments was as a star maker, surrounding himself with young wrestlers and helping to make them superstars! Never was this more evident then in fall 2003 when he was revealed as the
mastermind behind the rise of Kenny Omega to the PCW Heavyweight Championship! After a long absence, the fans cheered wildly as Parys hit the ring in darkness to align himself with his former PWI member
and guide him to the top of the Manitoba industry.
Never far from Parys' side was co-host of A-Channel's Big Breakfast, Jimmy Mac. Together, the two men wreaked havoc on PCW and even appeared on several other wrestling-related events in Winnipeg.
On June 2nd 2005, Premier Championship Wrestling will honour these two iconic legends by making them the first ever inductees into the PCW Hall of Fame with a ceremony during the Premier Cup: X-Raided event!
The only question that remains is, who will be inducting them?
"The two individuals chosen to perform the inductions could be anyone," Shallcross teased. "Both men have crossed paths with an assortment of people in their careers." He went on to say that this particular surprise will not be revealed prior to show time.
"The fans will just have to be at the LID on June 2nd to find out!"
The Hall of Fame is the most recent announcement concerning the blockbuster Premier Cup: X-Raided event! In addition to the first ever HOF inductions, PCW presents a one night, eight man tournament to
determine the best of the best in professional wrestling. Already signed to appear in the tournament are former X Division Champions 'The Future' Chris Sabin & The Amazing Red! Qualifying matches to
determine the other six participants will be announced soon.
"We promised a total entertainment experience and we intend to deliver," Shallcross said. "The most outstanding wrestling action, tremendous entertainment, blasts from the past and several
surprises! Stay tuned for even more announcements in the coming days. And get your tickets before they sell out!"
Tickets are only $10 and on sale now at all PCW live events, through PCW Superstars or via e-mail. Seating is limited and tickets are going fast.
Premier Championship Wrestling is Manitoba's leader in
sports-entertainment, combining a high level of professional integrity with unmatched in-ring talent.
