Winnipeg, Mb - PCW Heavyweight Champion Mentallo overcame tremendous odds en route to victory and a shot at the TNA World X Division Championship on August 4th at Beat The Summer Heat!
Mentallo will now face 'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels in what promises to be a thrilling match at the Premier Championship Wrestling supershow in two weeks. And it has been confirmed that the match will be title vs title.
"It's no secret we've discussed multi-show deals with both Chris Daniels and Steve Corino," Director of Operations Andrew Shallcross stated. "Should a championship change hands, the mechanism is in place for a fairly quick re-match."
Shallcross went on to say he'd be proud to have a superstar the calibre of Christopher Daniels as the PCW Heavyweight Champion, but pointed out that the result was certainly not a forgone conclusion.
"Mentallo is indy wrestling's best kept secret. A victory over Daniels would cement his reputation among industry insiders and fans alike and certainly create a unique situation within TNA."
It was a difficult, but thrilling, road to Beat the Summer Heat for the PCW champ. Mentallo went into the Four-Way Elimination match this past Thursday on a dominant performance streak but dogged by constant challengers to his title. Kenny Omega, Rawskillz and Antonio Scorpio Jr all competed hard for the opportunity.
Omega, considered by many to be the favourite going into the match, was eliminated by count out after a mid-match brawl with former friend and partner Cisco Satanico. That brawl was precipitated by an emotional encounter between the two men only minutes earlier.
Scorpio was the next to be eliminated, losing via pinfall to Rawskillz. The PCW Canadian Champion was the most hated participant in the match and his elimination left two popular superstars to do battle for the X Division Championship opportunity.
With dueling chants by the fans for both men, Mentallo and Rawskillz engaged in a classic encounter, triggering memories of their historic seven match series earlier in the year. However, it was Mentallo who came out on top, despite attempted interference from 'Showtime' Robby Royce.
Christopher Daniels represents an incredible opportunity for Mentallo. Considered by many to be the best wrestler on the planet, Daniels has been dominant in TNA and independent promotions all over the world. His upcoming match with Mentallo has fans salivating at the potential greatness of the encounter.
PCW's Beat The Summer Heat is live at the LID Nightclub on August 4th 2005. In addition to Mentallo vs Daniels for the PCW and X Division Championships, 'Showtime' Robby Royce will challenge AWA World Heavyweight Champion Steve Corino in a rematch to their incredible 2001 NWA North American Champion Match. The match represents the first defence of the AWA World title in Winnipeg in over 15 years and the possibility of the title staying in Winnipeg has many in the industry excited.
"Most people consider a World Championship title change to be an unlikely occurrence on an indy event," Shallcross explained. "But no one thought Royce would beat Corino in 2001 and he shocked the world. A return date for Corino has already been discussed should he lose the title and demand a rematch. Anything can happen in PCW."
Two World Champions, One Great Show, August 4th, only at the LID Nightclub!
