Here is the incredible line-up:
AWA World Heavyweight Championship
Steve Corino vs 'Showtime' Robby Royce
Extreme Rules
The date: April 21st 2001. The Prize: NWA North American Championship. The Result: Royce pinned Corino to win the title and stun the wrestling community.
It was believed at the time that the result would be without question - the 'name' Steve Corino would come in and successfully defend his title against the locally-based superstar and then move on. The shocking title change and victory for Royce instantly raised his profile in the industry and began the countdown to the inevitable re-match.
Unfortunately for Corino, the ineptitude of the promoter of record de-railed the rematch from taking place. It's taken four years and PCW to finally bring these two men together again!
Since that day in 2001, Corino has gone on to become a three-promotion world heavyweight champion, capturing the top title in the NWA, ECW and currently, the AWA. He has been a stand-out performer all over the world, including North American and Japan and comes into this match in the prime of his career, looking to avenge the one glaring blemish on his stellar record.
Royce went on to dominate his home market, walking away from the NWA North American championship he won from Corino when he felt the local affiliate could no longer offer him challenges. He led independent promotions, TRCW and ICW, taking their top titles before moving on to top ranked Premier Championship Wrestling where he pursued the heavyweight championship with a passion. He held the PCW title briefly earlier this year after pinning Adam Knight and in his final PCW match. But the victory was short-lived as Royce was defeated by Mentallo. Unable to regain the title in subsequent rematches, a bitter and angry Royce channeled his aggression into making life difficult for the new champion and PCW officials in any way possible.
After a brutal attack on Deputy Commissioner Vinko, Royce finally secured his last rematch, capturing the PCW Heavyweight Championship in a shocking outcome just last week. Royce has admitted no one believed he'd beat the 'name' in 2001 and many people don't believe he can do it now. But he has vowed to capture the AWA World Heavyweight Championship and keep it in Winnipeg.
And to ensure a winner, this match will be an anything-goes, no holds barred, Extreme Rules match! Both Royce and Corino are well versed in bloody, violent contests and this week's World title match promises to surpass them all.
Adding some intrigue to Corino's appearance is his request for interview time to address former NWA President Ernie Todd! There is no telling what Steve Corino might say with a live mic in his hand and Mr Todd is invited to attend the event to hear it personally.
Don't discount Royce's suggestion that he has certain 'friends' that are just as anxious to see him victorious as he is or the promise of PCW Superstar Kenny Omega to make Corino fully aware of the self-proclaimed hottest prospect in the business.
Will Corino even the series or will Royce cement his own legacy by capturing his first world title from a man he's beaten before? This historic world championship match happens this Thursday night, only at the LID!
TNA World X Division Championship Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels vs Mentallo
Christopher Daniels is considered by most industry experts to be the best wrestler on the planet. Not many would argue with that statement as the "Fallen Angel" has dominated the business for years. Finally ascending to North American super-stardom by capturing the World X Division Championship, Daniels has looked unbeatable in making his title more valued then even the NWA World Championship in TNA! His arrival in Premier Championship Wrestling follows the wildly successful Premier Cup tournament that established PCW as the Canadian leaders in X Division style wrestling!
While Daniels is an internationally acclaimed for his greatness, his opponent this week, Mentallo, is wrestling's best kept secret. Quickly and quietly becoming one of the most gifted in-ring performers in Canada, Mentallo appears on the verge of a major break-through.
Mentallo is no stranger to the X Division. At the Premier Cup this past June, he faced former World X Champion The Amazing Red in a thrilling contest. Red, who went to the final in that tournament, narrowly defeated Mentallo, but the experience of that match will most certainly come into play this Thursday night! Many observers considered Mentallo the better of the two men in that match, looking bigger, faster and crisper then his famous opponent. He will be looking to prove those statements true when he faces the World X Division Champion!
The biggest question going into this match will be how Mentallo responds coming off a heartbreaking loss of his PCW Heavyweight Championship just last week. To add to the drama, he was viciously attacked by his long-time friend, Kenny Omega following that match and Kenny has vowed to interfere in the X Division Championship contest to prove he's a bigger star then Chris Daniels.
Mentallo must demonstrate veteran focus as he prepares for the biggest match of his career. A victory over Daniels, by any means, would instantly propel him to the forefront of the industry.
The best wrestler on the planet vs wrestling’s best kept secret for the World X Division Championship this Thursday night, only at the LID!
NWA Canadian X Division Championship
Kenny Omega vs Nate Hardy
Controversy surrounds this match and it has nothing to do with the in-ring drama that has unfolded over the past few weeks.
The Canadian X Division Championship was the prize for winning the incredible Premier Cup tournament in June and was recognized as such by then-NWA President Ernie Todd and a majority of the Canadian NWA promoters. Todd later resigned as President amid a sad display of racial rhetoric and became enraged when PCW refused to have him appear at Beat The Summer Heat. As a result, he announced he no longer sanctions the NWA Canadian X Division Championship and sought out to get the NWA Board of Directors to force PCW to drop the title. PCW has steadfastly refused to bow to the intimidation of the NWA and have vowed to continue utilizing the NWA brand in relation to the title if only as a slap in the face to an organization that would have Mr Todd as a member.
Regardless of the drama behind the scenes, nothing could over-shadow the anticipation for this match. Kenny Omega has long been considered a talented wrestler with break-out potential. As a two time former PCW Heavyweight Champion, he has been the top star in the local industry for some time. However, last year, Kenny began developing a diva attitude to go along with his talent.
In November 2004, he challenged Petey Williams for the TNA World X Division Championship, coming very close to securing the title. Following that match, a grateful Williams draped the X title belt over Kenny's shoulder in recognition of his talent. Evidently, Omega enjoyed that imagery and began telling people he was the top prospect in the business.
This past June at the Premier Cup, Kenny defeated two former World X Division Champions, Chris Sabin and the Amazing Red to win the tournament and the NWA Canadian X Division Championship, a title he now considers meaningless. It would not be a stretch to say that the man who came the closest to beating Kenny in that tournament was not Sabin or Red, but his first round match-up - Cisco Satanico!
In what was considered the match of the night, Omega was lucky to earn a victory against young Cisco who took full advantage of the opportunity he was given. The fans demanded a rematch and PCW obliged, ordering Omega/Cisco II to take place early last month. That match ended in shocking fashion as Cisco suffered a serious concussion. As he was being helped to the back by his 'friend' Omega, Kenny violently ambushed him, pinning him with an arrogant cover. That was the catalyst for the fans turning their backs on the egotistical Omega and embracing the talented young Cisco!
Ordered by doctors to refrain from wrestling for 6 weeks, Cisco confronted Omega and slapped him across the face before being beat down again. But as Kenny battled Rawskillz, Mentallo and Scorpio for the shot against Christopher Daniels, Cisco stunned onlookers by aggressively attacking Omega and causing his elimination from that match. An enraged Omega agreed to face Cisco at Beat The Summer Heat, but surprised fans last week by forcing the still-injured masked man to wrestle him immediately.
Not content with just injuring Cisco, Kenny wanted to humiliate him by repeatedly trying to remove his mask. Finally successful, Omega paraded around the ring with the mask as if it were some sort of prize. Rather then be dejected, Cisco rose from the mat, allowing his identity as former rookie of the year finalist Nate Hardy to be revealed to the crowd, and confronted his former friend. Showing no signs of intimidate, Nate spit in Kenny's face, slapped him and shocked the crowd with a pinfall victory!
Kenny Omega had clearly been taking lightly the challenge of his ex-partner, preferring to brag to fans that he was wrestling’s hottest prospect and the one true name in the business. He insinuated that both Daniels and Corino were coming to PCW to get a rub from him and vowed to interfere in their matches to prove he was the bigger star. However, as was pointed out last week, Omega may have previously beat Cisco Satanico, but he never beat Nate Hardy!
And while Kenny may be going into this event considered a break-through superstar, it is Nate who intends to leave people believing that the skies the limit for him in PCW. And both men will want to follow up the Premier Cup by having the match of the night yet again.
PCW Canadian Championship
Antonio Scorpio Jr vs Mystery Opponent
No one has been a more dominant champion then Antonio Scorpio Jr. Since winning the PCW Canadian championship on March 3rd of this year, he has defeated on challengers to his title and is the longest reigning current champion in the company.
Several weeks ago, Scorpio suggested there was little competition for his title and made several open challenges, most of which went unanswered.
The one man he has been unable to beat is also the most decorated champion in PCW history - Rawskillz. Having won every title but the Canadian Championship, Skillz set out to change that. Both men engaged in some memorable brawls and the issue seems unsettled between them, but with Rawskillz poised to challenge for the PCW Tag Team Championship, it seems unlikely he'd attempt to win two titles in one night.
That created a situation where Scorpio's open challenge was accepted on behalf of a mystery superstar by Deputy Commissioner Vinko.
Rumors have run rampant that the challenger could be a former PCW superstar or perhaps even a champion from another promotion who has never appeared in PCW before. The vastly talented Scorpio seems unfazed by the mystery, but the young superstar must not allow himself to become over confident, a tall order for a man who just defeated WWE Developmental stand-out Wavell Starr in Saskatchewan over the weekend.
There is no factor more unknown then...the unknown and Scorpio has gambled his title against such a situation. At Beat The Summer Heat this Thursday night, only at the LID, Scorpio faces a mystery and the solution may spell the end of his period of dominance.
PCW Tag Team Championship
Tag Sciences Faculty vs Big Sexy Beasts vs Chris Klassic & Rawskillz
Triple Threat Elimination
There are many dreamers in the world or professional wrestling and Darien Karisma & Chris Klassic were two of them. Young, athletic, good looking, these two men seemed to have all the tools needed for success in the business. Coming together to form a hot young team known as Barely Legal, Klassic and Karisma dumped their manager Jean-Marc Levesque and asked the fans to come with them as they tried to make their dreams come true and win the PCW Tag Team titles!
On June 16th 2005, their dream seem poised to become a reality as they earned a tag team title shot against then-champions Donny Dicaprio and Rawskillz. But fate (and two big sons of biatches) conspired against them. At the last minute the match was changed to a triple threat as 'Priceless' Chad Tatum & Mike Angels were inserted into the match.
That was bad enough, but what was worse was the debut of the Big Sexy Beasts - AJ Sanchez & Kevy Chevy. The BSB's previously wrestled for another promotion but their talent level was so superior to everyone else there that they were forced to leave or be labeled as paper champions. There was only one place for them to go to prove they had the ability to step into the ring with the best - Premier Championship Wrestling. And they set their sights on making an impact by attacking the number one contenders, Barely Legal.
As a result, Karisma was seriously injured and he and Klassic lost their opportunity at realizing their dream as Tatum & Angels won the tag titles instead.
Karisma was forced into rehab with only a slight chance of a successful return to wrestling. That left his partner Klassic to fight on his own, facing one more chance to dream a little dream. Last week, the BSB's faced a partner-less Klassic for a shot at the tag team titles, but it was Rawskillz who really surprised the fans by offering to win the titles with Klassic. As 'the most decorated champion in PCW history', Skillz considered the victory a forgone conclusion. But the BSB's would not be put away that easily, defeating Skillz & Klassic after the Tag Sciences Faculty interfered.
That forced Deputy Commissioner Vinko to make an important decision - the tag team title match at Beat The Summer Heat this Thursday, only at the LID, would be a triple threat elimination match!
Chris Klassic has his shot at the dream once again, but his injured partner is on the outside looking in. Will be happy being an observer? Or will the BSB's prove they are as good as their past success might dictate? The answer to both questions may be a resounding no, if the continued impressive streak of the champs continues.
Mixed Martial Arts Exhibition
Donny Dicaprio vs Opponent
As was the case at the Premier Cup, the importance of the opponent in this match seems undervalued, which could be setting the stage for a major upset.
Dicaprio will not be entering into this exhibition lightly. He is an accomplished martial artist who recently won three gold medals in a competition in Saskatchewan and has been impressing both fans of MMA and wrestling with his shoot exhibition victories in the past several months since nearly defeating UFC legend Dan Severn.
If a victory is in the cards this Thursday, only at the LID, for Dicaprio, once has to expect he would be facing more well-known competitors at his next match. But a victory is by no means a forgone conclusion as anything is possible in this type of shoot-style match.
A dominant win could push Dicaprio to the next level while an upset loss could force him over the edge.
Dark Chee vs 'Diehard' Greg Romijn
No feud has erupted with such hatred and violence in the past several weeks as this one. For years, Greg Romijn has lived up to his billing as the heat & soul of PCW. A popular, entertaining young superstar who gave 100% in the ring every time, he valued his friends in the business more then titles. And he had no closer friend then Pete Chee, the charismatic entertainer with the dirty mouth and funny voice.
Together, Romijn and Chee were a great team and responsible for one of the popular characters in Manitoba wrestling history! That all changed when Chee allowed the 400lb Moses Like to attack and victimize Romijn several weeks ago. It continued in a shocking matter when Chee joined in on the attacks, denouncing the fans and even his own identity. Calling himself Dark Chee, there seemed no hope for reconciliation, though Romijn tried to make that a reality.
Romijn refused for weeks to fight his friend. He lost match after match after match due to his passionate pleas for Chee to return to him and reject Moses Luke. And then it happened - with Romijn being brutally assaulted and calling out for Chee to help him, he did! Chee dumped Moses and embraced Romijn and vowed to team with him the following week.
But it was all a sick game as Chee denounced Romijn and the fans once and for all in yet another horrific attack on his former friend. Chee and Luke utilized handcuffs, chairs and a noose to batter Romijn. But what they did was inspire him! His prior refusal to fight was now replaced by a burning desire to destroy Dark Chee! And that desire has forced Chee into a position of fright as he has run from an angry Romijn several times.
There will be no running this Thursday night, only at the LID, as Romijn faces Chee one on one!
David Dixon vs Deputy Commissioner Vinko
In the man's man sport of pro wrestling, no one was more comfortable being themselves then 'Adorable' David Dixon, an openly homosexual entertainer who relished in his ability to gain an advantage due to the gay antics.
All that changed several weeks ago when he attacked his former manager, the Ukrainian Sex Machine Vinko! Dixon railed against the 'gimmick' of being gay, revealing that he is actually getting married this fall and training for a career in law enforcement. He called PCW a disgrace for forcing him to act like a 'f*g' and accused everyone from Andrew Shallcross to Greg Romijn of getting off on the gimmick.
It was an angry and bitter Dixon that went on a violent rampage, utilizing tools of his law enforcement trade to beat people up. He assisted Royce in his war with Vinko and Mentallo and helped Moses and Chee assault Romijn.
Dixon seems to have no loyalty and no focus for his aggressiveness. But Vinko responded last week by ordering him to appear at Beat the Summer Heat this Thursday night, only at the LID! Vinko told Dixon he would face the sexiest opponent ever...him!
Dixon intends to end the career of the Deputy Commissioner once and for all.
Dave Dixon vs Vinko, this Thursday!
Kory Kinkade Kampaign final day!
Several weeks ago, Kory Kinkade angered PCW Director of Operations Andrew Shallcross by taking part in several attacks on him along with Robby Royce and JP Kaos. While Kaos eventually quit on his own, Kinkade was fired. But he refused to go quietly into the night, showing up the following week, sitting in the audience and holding up signs touting the Kory Kinkade Kampaign, designed to encourage the fans to petition PCW for his return.
Shallcross was unrelenting, but then PCW Commissioner Tom Manos appointed a Deputy Commissioner to oversee all wrestling-related decisions. That man, Vinko, offered Kinkade the chance to earn his job back. All he had to do was beat Kenny Omega. Not only did he fail to win the match, he suffered an injury as well and refused to leave the building. He was eventually escorted out by security.
But Kinkade was not finished embarrassing himself. He donned a mask and ridiculous outfit and became The Ringmaster! He should have called himself the Jobber! He was defeated and unmasked by Robby Royce two weeks ago and embarrassed by Dark Chee just last week.
This prompted Vinko to offer Kinkade the chance of a lifetime on the biggest stage of his career. If Kinkade can beat Moses Luke this Thursday Night, he will be a PCW wrestler for life. If he loses, he is fired forever and will be taken to the back and gang raped.
A lot of pressure for the young Kinkade this Thursday night, only at the LID!
PCW's Beat The Summer Heat is this Thursday at the LID Nightclub! Tickets are available at the door! Get there early for the hottest event of the year!
