Firstly, I like to comment on these big shows and usually I thank certain people and make some general comments. There is so much good will surrounding this show which is awesome. And ofcourse, there are people (mostly Ernie Todd) who try to ruin the moment. I will make some comments in response to him as we go along.
Thank you to the fans! I will admit I was somewhat nervous going into this show considering the timing of the event. But you blew me away again by being abundant, hot and into everything. There is nothing better then performing in front of a hot crowd. Thank you.
And to the boys in general who not only spread the word like only they can do, but went out and kicked ass in the ring like only they can do. When people comment on the show and the only comparison they can make is to the last PCW supershow, you know's you've cornered the market and that has everything to do with the in-ring talent.
I want to specifically mention Mentallo, who has been one of the most humble, quiet guys around these parts for years, but a guy who simply became one of the most talented indy guys in the country. He deserved the opportunity to face Chris Daniels and he did not disappoint in the least. The comments from Daniels and Corino in regards to Mentallo were very, very positive.
He did PCW and the entire local industry proud on thursday and we should all be thanking him for representing us so well to the best worker on the planet. Mentallo is the man.
Robby Royce has been wanting the rematch that the 'bonehead' screwed up for a long time. He promised me Corino was an awesome guy. He promised me the match would rule. And he delivered in a big way. On a business note, Royce really put a lot of effort into the show and was a strong driving force behind the scenes. His desire to have a great match with Corino was surpassed only by his desire for the show as a whole to be great. Mission accomplished.
Kenny Omega hit a homerun once again. Most people, if asked to pick a breakout future superstar to come out of Winnipeg would choose Kenny. And aside from in-ring talent, you need charisma and star presence. He has that for sure. He (along with Mentallo and Royce) looked on par with Daniels and Corino. It was a nice visual to see Kenny with the World X Division belt around his waist and I am sure everyone is salivating at the thought of Kenny/Daniels.
I want to thank Scorpio for going out there and working hard and having a good match when he only found out who his partner was a few days prior. Scorpio is a team player through and through and incredibly talented.
The Three-Way tag was incredible. I would say Rawskillz has a future as an agent. Corino was still talking about this match on the way to the airport the next day. Awesome job!
To all the rest of the guys, your work and contributions were greatly appreciated. I could mentioned everyone by name, but please take this as a personal thanks from me to each of you. You did the industry proud and proved that our place in the Manitoba industry is quite secure.
I will say P'lo impressed me. That segment was one that was personally important and I was concerned about how it would come off. 'Better then expected' would be the way to describe it and it had everything to do with P'lo's delivery. Can't wait to see what happens when you light up a flag...
And ofcourse, we have to mention that MMA 'exhibition'. How much was work and how much was shoot? Well, I know the answer. And everyone there knows the answer. And I am sure Ernie Todd and his friends in high places already know the answer. Dicaprio and Marx deserve huge credit for being willing to go out on this type of show and do what they did. I hope the people in attendance realise what they were seeing (I think they did) and know how rare that is given certain political considerations.
Any past issues I had with Marx are wiped clean by his willingess to give the people what they really wanted. And Dicaprio, what can I say - awesome! Can't wait to see this develop over time.
Shane Madison - thank you for coming down and helping us out with the judging. And thanks for the positive words before, during and after the event. Given the amount of politics that some people fall into, it often takes a non-PCW guy to remind the morons that the show was great and I appreciate the kind words.
Jon Cutler, thanks for stepping in on very short notice and during your rehab to fill a hole for us. It was great to see you in a PCW ring again.
Dave Levinski, I was not sure if he'd make it out, but I have to say, a big event just isnt the same with out the local industries elder statesman in the house. Thank you for everything!
I want to mention Tom Manos, who won't read this, but deserves to have his name put out there for people to see. While Tom did not pay the guys (contrary to jealous reports), Tom is the venue owner most giving to this business locally. He is a very grounding force as he is very non-political. He is always willing to be a partner and not someone looking to profit. It's no ones business what our deal was, and so far, no one has reported it correctly. My suggestion to people who are so concerned is, for those people (I'm talking to you Ernie), is to go out, get a venue, try not to burn it in the first month, avoid threatening legal action and make that venue want to work with you. Good luck with that...
Christopher Daniels - what can you say about the best wrestler on the planet that has not already been said? He was unselfish. He was very very easy to work with and he was very giving. Sitting down with him and Steve to go over the booking was simple. Chris suggested a couple of things that improved the show, but was mostly happy to do anything we asked and help make the guys and the show better. I can't wait to have him back.
Steve Corino. Two different people locally in the business said to me previously that Steve is a flop who would not draw one person. He was the main event of the show and almost every person that was there at the beginning was there at the end. And the were into Steve and Royce like crazy. And there is not one person who was there or who heard about it, that would not want to buy a ticket to see Match Three, I am sure.
Steve is an awesome guy and so smart about the business. I had the pleasure of spending some time during the day with him and he has so many stories. he gave a lot of advice and just really was down to earth. Totally one of the boys. As he told me, he feels it is his job to always be scouting and helping young guys and he spent a lot of time behind the side bar watching our boys work and he had a lot of great things to say.
After hearing a few of his stories, I just had to shake my head at some of the 'bonehead' things that take place. And in regards to his promo where he was clearly talking about Ernie - all I did was pencil in a promo and tell Steve to say whatever he wanted. And he did. And I know he wanted to say a lot more, but there was no need to mention Ernie right before a great match...
That brings me to the seedy political side of the equation.
I am very impressed with all the positive words I have been reading on the internet. That means a lot to me and the guys to see people expressing their satisfaction with the event.
It absolutely shocks me to see Ernie Todd trying to get over on our success. How dare a promoter interject himself with threats to me, Tom and the venue and insinuating that talent is blackballed. Allow me to respond with a hearty laugh.
But then the seriousness sinks in. Not seriousness of Ernie's words because Ernie can no more blackball a young talent then he can blackball a WWE worker. But for a promoter and an NWA member and the former NWA President to make those comments on a public board is shocking and sad and not just a little pathetic.
The old games of spreading bullsh!t are still alive, I see. Tom is a great partner in these shows. His revenue stream comes from food and liqour sales. He does pretty good in that regard because we put people in the building, unlike at a CWF show. I paid the boys and I financed the show. If the show had bombed, it was my money. I had the PO's for the names in my pocket before the first patron entered the bar.
And that brings me to the great fan of the business who took it upon himself to e-mail Dale Gagne telling him that Steve and Chris should not get on the plane as I was planning to screw them and not pay them. A very classy move. I think we know who that was...
11 'names' have come to PCW. All them were taken care of very well and all of them showed up (which is more then i can say for some 'promoters) and all of them would love to come back (which is more then I can say for some promoters).
So Ernie, if you want to threaten me and you really mean it, don't try to draw me into a message board work - contact me direct. I know Carey Paul is still waiting for his legal papers from you. I know Mike Davidson and Shane Madison are still worried whenever the door bell rings. But you're a disgrace to the business. It makes me sick. And this week, more then any other, I learned that you are a disgrace in the business everywhere. Having Ernie Todd not endorse you is like having an endorsement. Trust me.
As for the so-called NWA Canadian X Division title - Ernie, you made a bad deal because you're a bad businessman. I appreciate that I am considered important enough to warrent contacting the entire NWA BOD to get them on my case and I appreciate that I am important enough for the NWA to contact the AWA, but let's get real here. The deal made in writing between Ernie and me was for indefiniate use of the NWA name and marks in relation to the NWA Canadian X Division title. The only stipulation was Ernie approving any title swaps, but the writing is clear that I can do whatever I want with the title. And I will. There was never any mention of Aug 4th. So sue me, prick.
As for guys being blackballed. If Kenny is no longer welcome in the CWF, I am sure he will somehow go on. Since Ernie has been unable to do anything positive for his talent during the time he was an NWA affiliate and NWA President, then I am sure he cant do anything now, positive or negative. Besides, only an idiot would want to NOT be associated with talent like Kenny.
To be fair, Ernie's inability to be truthful or deal in good faith actually costs his guys. When CWF associated talent comes to me looking for regular work since their boss is too much of a dink to find any, I have to tell them no. You work for Ernie, you dont work for me. And I told them, ask your boss why he screwed up the deal.
And to the nice young 'producer' who sent me a very nice e-mail last week telling me the show would flop, draw flies and put me out of business by Friday morning, I only say - you cant even make accurate promises about your own product, so I would suggest you stop making them about mine.
But enough of that - I really want heat with no one. It serves no useful purpose other then to give the rub to people (like Ernie) who have never spent the money or the time or the effort to better the business. Sit back and try to reap benefit from others work and see where it takes you. PCW's only competition is PCW and that is directly because of the boys, the fans, Tom and, dare I say, myself. It's a team effort with guys who all want to be part of this team.
Thank you!
Andrew
