Anyone want to discuss this show?
I thought it was a decent, if unspectacular event. WWE is in that mode right now of using TV to be all entertainy while just delivering wrestling on the PPV's. Which is okay, but I recall a time when the PPV's were the cream of the crop in wrestling AND entertainment. I guess when no one is kicking your ass in ratings and buy rates, you dont have to work hard.
Good on WWE for sacrificing one of their boys, Orlando Jordon to put Benoit over. The US title is a step back, but if they let him do what he does, they could easily rehabilitate that strap. OJ is very athletic and has a good look but needs a slow build up...maybe a tag team with Booker because...well just because they're both black.
Many examples of WWE not understanding their audience on this show. Eugene gets booed out of the building and Angle is hailed as a God. And considering how the fans turnd on Cene as well (which any remotely smart fan knew would happen), you've got to be nervous about the Cena/Angle feud if you're WWE. If this PPV had been SD, they would have heavily edited the sound (like they did this past Thursday when the fans were popping for Eddie).
Speaking of Eddie, he was gettinng cheered too and was the star of this sh!tty angle by putting in Oscar-worthy performances. Too bad the angle was brutal and is, hopefully, done. But since Rey is still undefeated, it may not be. There was talk of Eddie/Batista, which would be great for the champ, but I'm thinking Benoit/Eddie now or maybe throw Christian in the mix, though it seems WWE wants to buy Christian as quickly as possible.
Edge/Hardy...what a joke. I am sure hardy's biggest concern when considering a return to WWE was whether they would treat him fairly. He has his answer. It doesn't matter if you're one of the most over guys on the roster or if your fan base is so loyal and passionate that they force WWE to hire you, if you piss off Vince, you're going to get burried. How much money has WWE pissed away over the years by doing what they wanted rather then what the fans wanted?
Hardy was finished the moment he shook Vince's hand. If WWE had any balls or forsight, they would have let Hardy be the guy it seemed he was going to be when he first attacked Edge - the voice of the smart fan, crapping on WWE, putting over indy feds, saying what was wrong, shooting on everyone and eventually slapping Vince across the face. Instead, they try to force Cena down our throats as the 'peoples champ' when Matt was already the peoples choice. Terrible. At this point, I'd almost consider throwing Christian into the mix and bringing in Jeff too...why not?
Hogan/Michaels ws not great, but was good. RAW was fantastic with the Bret Hart mention and you have to think, like Hardy before him, that Hart has agreed to appear in the future. But how unfair to Michaels and Hogan to make Bret a focal point of the match. They bust their ass and the fans chant We Want Bret. WWE did it to themselves. Michaels is the wrestler of the year and needs to stay heel. He should be kicking Cena's ass at Survivor Series, not turning face.
And someone asked what match could sell out a Detroit Stadium at WM 23 like Hogan/Andre did - Michaels/Bret is the answer.
Just my thoughts...anyone else?
