The NHLPA accepted a salary cap and proposed it be at $52 million. The NHL rejected that, but moved off their stance of requiring salaries linked to revenue and have made a final take-it-or-leave-it offer of $42 million.
Interesting...will we have a season?

I forgot my "Sheik" password
An open letter to the NHL players, owners and executive:
I hope everyone on both sides suffer horrendous financial losses. I hope your wives leave you and your children curse your names. I hope the league folds or at the very least that franchise values plummet to the point that at least half the franchises cease functioning.
Winnipeg could then get a franchise with a cap of 30 million TOPS. Top players would be capped at MAYBE 1.5 million and rookies start out at a way too generous $200,000 with modest cost of living raises for the first 5 years.
Bonuses only for playing in the cup final or winning the Stanley Cup. Anyone who complains can do what Bobby Hull or Phil Esposito did early in their careers and bale hay in the broiling sun or breathe coal dust in a mine during the off-season.
Don't try to f**k me over with a 30-game season this year. It would be a disgrace to everyone who has ever fought heart and soul to win the cup. Don't make me kill all of you.
In closing:
-f**k the owners
-f**k the players
-f**k Bettman
If they do "save the season" I hope every team plays to empty houses. Bettman, you f**k, bring back the Jets and then we can talk, better yet communicate with me only in writing because if I see your open mouth I will piss in it. I will honestly find a way to get a hideous bladder infection and then piss in your open mouth.
f**k you!!! f**k YOOOUUUU!!!!!! BOYCOTT THE NHL!!!
Thank you for your time.

BEST POST EVER!!!!!
Sheik, tell me that was an actual open letter you wrote. Bettman and Goodenow should be forced to read... memorize that.

I know a lot of people want to hate both parties in this, but looking at this thing from an informed perception, you really have to appreciate what the NHL owners are doing.
They ARE going to fix the economics of the game (and then probably the style of the game).
From a 'Bring Back the Jets' standpoint, we have to fall at the feet of Bettman and thank him thus far. A 30 million dollar cap will NEVER happen and never was going to happen. And Winnipeg does not need that low of a cap (dispite what Chipman says publically). A $40 million cap works just fine.
Doing that match, a season of sell outs at the MTS Centre would generate over $50 million - that is only gate revenue and does not include anything else. We're fine with a $40 million cap.
Go Owners. The players are simply not smart enough to understand the situation. They will get less later and look back on the NHL's take it or leave it offer with fond memories of what could have been.
